Auditions are the key to quick success and prompt employment. Despite the notion that a certain 'look' matters most, there are several tips you can follow in order to increase your chances of success!
1. If your agent is able to send you a copy of your script prior to the audition then INSIST on it! Get a fax or email account so that the script can be sent asap.
2. If possible, ask the casting director what kind of 'feel' or 'vibe' the network, client or sponsor is looking for.
3. Learn and rehearse the script excessively. If you know it inside out then should the director ask for variations then you won't have the problem of script retention. Better still,
learn it to understand it - not to simply repeat it.
4. Know what to wear.
5. Use props. It is unlikely they will be provided so take some of your own. If you are shooting a gardening segment then use gloves and hedge clippers...you get the idea!
6. Never be late. Know the journey time and take into account delays. Better to turn up 30 minutes early than 5 minutes late.
7. When you walk into the room, make sure you ASK and remember names. Recalling the crew names during the audition will demonstrate your ability to communicate and remember.
8. Listen, listen, listen.
